President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. arrives at the Federal Chancellery to meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, commencing the first day of his Working Visit to Berlin, Germany on March 12, 2024.
The President is in the European nation upon the invitation of Chancellor Scholz to further deepen the bilateral ties between the Philippines and Germany.
Following the arrival honors, President Marcos Jr. and the rest of his delegation proceed to discuss various matters relating to the strengthening of partnerships and promoting a rules-based international order with the German Chancellor. The meeting focuses on bolstering economic engagements between the two nations, as well as exploring more ways to foster greater cooperation in various areas such as renewable energy, healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, aerospace, innovation and startups, trade and investments, and minerals processing, among others.
Among the highlights of the meeting is the exchange of signed agreements between the Philippines and Germany, which will enhance collaboration in maritime cooperation and skills training. These include the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) on Maritime Cooperation, as well as a cooperation program between the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Germany’s Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB).
In a statement, President Marcos Jr. recognizes Germany as one of the important partners of the Philippines and vows to continue working with the European nation to come up with more initiatives to enrich this strong partnership.
“I eagerly anticipate the continuation of our strong partnership for another 70 years or more. With confidence, I believe we can deepen our relationship and collaborate for the mutual prosperity of our countries,” the Chief Executive conveys.
The President’s visit to the European nation coincides with the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Germany, which began in 1954.
