Today we review the World April weather trends which shows the U.S. was 2.4F colder than last year, 8th coldest in 35 years and 13% drier than last year but still 9th wettest of the past 35 years. West Europe was on the warm and very dry side.

Drought has begun to take shape in the U.S. with 29% of the U.S. in dry to drought conditions vs only 11% this time last year. We expect this to go over 50% this year and near 60% into 2021 with a drier cycle ahead.

This week (4-10 May) shows the epic change from the hot weekend in the East, we hit 81F here on Sunday, but now the coldest first full week of May in over 35 years.

Widespread severe freezes likely this week and weekend which will bring significant damage to apple, peaches and grape crops throughout the Northeast. WTI's year-ahead accuracy has been trending at 84% in the Northeast since March and predicted the hot March, cooler April and May.

Mother's Day weekend is the coldest in over 35 years nationally and especially the Northeast. The West is the warmest in 7 years and 3rd warmest Mother's Day in 35 years.

Next week (11-17 May) shows a similar pattern but we should see the cold diminish a bit as we go through the week.
