Serbia is finalising its preparations for the state visit of China’s President Xi. The Chinese president will visit Belgrade as part of his European tour, which also includes visits to Hungary and France. Relations between Serbia and China have become increasingly warm since President Xi’s last visit to the Balkan country, back in 2016. China has successfully invested billions into the nation as part of its ‘belt and road’ initiative. Serbia continues to pursue EU membership, but some Western commentators have expressed concern at Belgrade’s supposedly Eastern geopolitical positioning.
