The Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine (ESEM) hosted a COVID-19 webinar: ''Lessons learned from the UK and Europe'' on 1st July 2020 at 17:00 (GMT + 4:00). The 1 hour virtual event featured lectures from two of the leading figures in Emergency Medicine in Europe- Dr Katherine Henderson (RCEM President& EM Consultant, St Thomas’ Hospital, London) and Prof Ives Hubloue (Chairman, UZ Brussel, ReGEDiM, VUB, Belgium). The sessions were moderated by Dr Omar Ghazanfar (EM Physician & Disaster Medicine Consultant, Zayed Military Hospital).
Sharing their experiences from the UK & Belgium, the speakers highlight the importance of multidisciplinary approach, role of EMS, disproportionate impact of deprivation and ethnicity, staffing & logistical problems with solutions, ED re-organisation, planning & training, ED in the post-pandemic era and future challenges.
