During the Japanese colonial era from 1910 - 1945, the Yakuza had a strong presence in Korea. However, Korean mobsters known as 'Jopok' fought for independence and clashed with the Japanese Gangsters. Yeongdungpo, is home to a red light district, forgotten Jopok leaders and an inner city slum.
