Former New South Wales deputy premier John Barilaro has been awarded $715,000 after winning a defamation case against Google.

The retired politician sued over two YouTube videos that were published in 2020 by the comedian Jordan Shanks, known as FriendlyJordies.
The former Monaro MP said the videos were "vulgar", "offensive", portrayed him as a corrupt conman and included "racial slurs" referencing his Italian heritage.
Justice Steven Rares said the videos of Mr Shanks constituted a "relentless and vicious campaign against Mr Barilaro".
