Persia is a historical region of southwestern Asia that is associated with modern-day Iran.

It is one of the world's earliest inhabited areas. Human habitation has been found in the nation dating back 1 lakh years to the Paleolithic Age, with semi-permanent settlements (most likely for hunting groups) dating back to before 10,000 BC.

Of fact, the borders of the many Persian empires have shifted over time, but the core of the Persian empires generally corresponds to the lands of modern-day Iran and Iraq, as well as parts of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and other nations.

For centuries, the term "Persia" has been used to refer to an area in southern Iran formerly known as Persis, sometimes known as Prs or Parsa, and currently known as Frs.

The ancient Greeks and other peoples progressively expanded the use of the name to include the entire Iranian plateau.
