(13 Nov 2018) Italian President Sergio Mattarella arrived in Stockholm for a three-day state visit and met the country's king and queen on Tuesday.
Italy's president rode through the Swedish capital in a horse-drawn carriage to the Royal Palace after being greeted by Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.
He also inspected troops to the sound of a military fanfare in a ceremonial display.
During his stay, Mattarella and his daughter Laura were expected to visit Europe's oldest public museums before travelling to southern Sweden to see an European research facility.
After visiting the Riksdagen parliament and Swedish mobile networks company Ericsson, Mattarella was expected to fly to Malmo Wednesday to see the European Spallation Source in nearby Lund.
Italy is among the countries involved in the research facility.
