few Countries that want to join the European Union.
So turkey applied for EU membership in 1987. However the EU has not granted it membership yet for several reasons. Firtly Turkey is considered to be culturally and geographically more Asian than European. Turkey faces other hurdles such as its low GDP per capita, the issue of Cyprus, and its rivelry with other EU countries.
Another potential member is Serbia. however this country has a dispute with Cyprus so the EU won't let it join until it can come up with a peaceful solution.
