It is a popular vacation spot in the north of the country, primarily inhabited by native Pashtuns who have been living their lives in a traditional way for centuries. Nestled in the outskirts of the picturesque valley lies Islampur, a small town that has been in the limelight for its handcrafted shawls. Nearly every family there is involved in producing these shawls. But this centuries-old craft is under threat due to political turmoil, natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic.
