According to a report by CNN Travel, on Friday, the European Union announced that starting in 2021, United States citizens traveling to Europe will be required to carry a passport. Currently, US citizens can travel to Europe for up to 90 days without a visa. The new rule will soon require US travelers to acquire a new type of visa, a European Travel information and Authorization System or ETIAS, to visit the European Schengen Area. The Schengen Area is reportedly a zone of 26 EU countries that do not have internal borders and allow people to move between them freely, including France, Spain, Germany, and Italy.
