Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Brussels to rally EU leaders for jets and long-range weapons to shore up his defences against the Russian invasion.

The Ukrainian president arrived in the capital with Emmanuel Macron, the French president, for his first visit to the heart of the union since the war began,

He will address the European parliament and attend a summit meeting.

Charles Michel, the European Council chief, tweeted: "Welcome home, welcome to the EU."
